A Fresh New Team With A Fresh New Program

Summer always brings new eager staff and this spring/summer we’ve had the pleasure of working with a team of three impressive ladies. Emma Huddleston continues as the Program Coordinator, Victoria Keats as our Program Assistant and Leah Fancey as our Communications Manager.

This team planned the full Summer Day Program and never before has it been such a full activity schedule. There is something for everyone.

We have been so fortunate for the opportunity to work with L’Arche Fredericton this summer. The day program has been a highlight of our summer, and we’re always so happy to do daily activities with our friends at L’Arche Fredericton. It has been a great summer, and we’re looking forward to spending the last couple of weeks with an extraordinary group of people.” - Victoria, Emma, & Leah

Exploring the Vision of L'Arche

It has been my pleasure to meet bi-weekly this summer with our wonderful trio of L'Arche Fredericton "summer students" -- Emma, Victoria & Leah. We have been exploring together the ideas found in two important L'Arche-inspired texts: the 1998 Massey Lecture series, Becoming Human and Henri Nouwen's last published book, Adam: God's Beloved. Emma, Victoria and Leah have all brought such valuable insights, experiences and questions to our conversations -- coming, as the three of them do, from a variety of interesting backgrounds and areas of academic interest. They have been veritable "L'Arche sponges" as we have chatted about the founding and persistent principles of the history, identity & mission of L'Arche in Canada and around the world. Of course, the touchstone themes have been mutually transformative relationship(s) across difference and revealing the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities -- and especially about how these themes (can) touch the lives of young people today. Thank you to Emma, Victoria & Leah for your curiosity and enthusiasm, and for your eagerness to engage some of the deepest core elements of the L'Arche vision! - Kurt Schmidt
